Students Of The Month - November, 2024

The Washington County Career Center honors its November students of the month, Emma and Cooper.

Emma is a Fort Frye senior enrolled in the Graphic Design & Video Production program. She is the daughter of Mark of Churchtown and Traci of Reno.

At the Career Center, Emma is a member and the treasurer for the Business Professionals of America (BPA) youth organization, Student Council, and vice president for the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). She is also the class treasurer of her technical program. In addition, she is a student ambassador, acting as a liaison between the Career Center and Fort Frye High School. For BPA, she competed at the national level this past May in the category of entrepreneurship in Chicago, Illinois, and placed 11th in the nation. At Fort Frye High School, she is a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) and was a member of Students Solving Problems and the National Spanish Honor Society. Through her technical program, Emma has or will earn college credit or industry certifications for the Adobe Creative Cloud software in 2D animation, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, digital photography, digital storytelling, digital video effects, graphic design, live streaming and production, Premiere Pro, and video production. She is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for creating & editing digital graphics, design techniques, information technology, multimedia & image management techniques, and video & sound. Outside of school, Emma is a member of the Evergreen Bible Church in Williamstown and is a children’s ministry helper as well as on the church youth council. She was also featured in the Marietta Times as Teen of the Week.

Emma has been on the Career Center’s principal list and honor roll every grading period. She has or will earn college credit for the following academics: American national government, American literature, college Spanish, creative writing, English composition I & II, introduction to nutrition, pre-calculus, psychology, speech, technical writing, and U.S. history. Graphic Design & Video Production instructor Chris commented, “Emma is a wonderful, hardworking student with ambitious dreams and goals.”

Emma is currently employed at Whit’s Frozen Custard and Pioneer Family Golf. Upon graduation, she aspires to attend The Ohio State University to obtain a bachelor’s degree in visual communications design.

Cooper is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Sports Medicine & Exercise Science program, and he is the son of Chris and Allison of Marietta.

At the Career Center, Cooper is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization and Student Council. He has been on the Career Center’s principal list and honor roll every grading period. At Marietta High School, he is active in baseball as a first baseman and pitcher. He received awards for 1st team all league, 2nd team all conference, 2nd team all district, prep player of the week, and student athlete of the week.

Cooper has or will earn industry-recognized credentials or certifications for Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Stop the Bleed, and the Physical Therapy Technician Certification (PTTC). Through College Credit Plus, he has or will earn both high school and college credit for American national government, English composition, exercise science, first aid-personal safety, health & fitness foundations, introduction to nutrition, medical terminology, resistance training, and statistics. He is taking course offerings and learning skills for athletic injuries & prevention, exercise & athletic training, nutrition & wellness, and sports exercise psychology. Sports Medicine & Exercise Science instructor Lauren commented, “Cooper is extremely helpful and goes above and beyond in the classroom and lab.”

Cooper is currently employed at Dough Boyz in Reno. He has committed to the University of Rio Grande for baseball and plans to obtain a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He aspires to go on to graduate school for athletic training.
