The Washington County Career Center honors its December Students of the Month, Taylor and Nathan.
Taylor is a Fort Frye senior enrolled in the Sports Medicine & Exercise Science program, and she is the daughter of Joshua of Canal Winchester and Kayla of Lowell.
At the Career Center, Taylor is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization, National Technical Honor Society, president of Student Council, and class secretary of her technical program. She has been on the Career Center’s principal list and honor roll every grading period. At Fort Frye High School, she is active in softball and a member of the National Honor Society. She volunteers for the Relay for Life and as an umpire.
Taylor has or will earn industry-recognized credentials or certifications for Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Stop the Bleed, and the Physical Therapy Technician Certification (PTTC). Through College Credit Plus, she has or will earn both high school and college credit for American national government, English composition, exercise science, first aid-personal safety, health & fitness foundations, introduction to nutrition, medical terminology, psychology, resistance training, and statistics. She is taking course offerings and learning skills for athletic injuries & prevention, exercise & athletic training, nutrition & wellness, and sports exercise psychology. Sports Medicine & Exercise Science instructor, Lauren commented, “Taylor stays after and helps. She is very organized and keeps me organized as well. She has a great work ethic in both the lab and classroom.”
Taylor has worked the past two summers for the Fort Frye Local School District. She plans to attend Washington State College of Ohio to obtain an associate’s degree as a physical therapy assistant.
Nathan is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Masonry program, and he is the son of Steve and Barb of Marietta.
Nathan is a member of the Career Center’s SkillsUSA youth organization and is class president of his technical program. Through SkillsUSA, he competed and earned second for masonry at the state level. He has received awards for the Career Center’s Honor and Merit Roll. He is taking course offerings and learning skills for concrete & residential masonry, construction safety & crew leadership, construction technology – core & sustainable construction, and masonry – brick & block. In his technical program, he has earned industry-recognized credentials for National Center for Construction Education and Research – Core & Level I and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-hour training. Masonry instructor, Casey commented, “Nathan is liked school-wide by staff and peers. He has an excellent work ethic and is a leader in the lab and classroom.”
Nathan is currently employed at Auto Zone in Marietta. Upon graduation, he plans to enter directly into the workforce and potentially join the union trades.
