Washington County Career Center SkillsUSA recently elected its 2021-22 chapter officers. The Career Center representatives are:
President, James, is a junior from Marietta enrolled in the Building Technology/Carpentry program. He is the son of Sara of Marietta;
Vice President, Joshua, is a senior from Belpre enrolled in the Diesel Truck Mechanics program. He is the son of Shawn and Sara of Belpre;
Secretary, Kirsten, is a senior from Marietta enrolled in the Cosmetology program. She is the daughter of Ben and Nancy of Marietta;
Treasurer, Hannah, is a senior from Marietta enrolled in the Cosmetology program. She is the daughter of Andrew of Marietta and Trish of Marietta; and
Assistant, Grace, is a senior from Warren enrolled in the Cosmetology program. She is the daughter of Dave and Donna of Marietta.
SkillsUSA programs help to establish industry standards for job skill training in the lab and classroom, and promote community service. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and is cited as a "successful model of employer-driven youth development training programs" by the U.S. Department of Labor. The Career Center Chapter, part of a national organization, serves 12 vocational/technical programs, which are Auto Collision Repair & Refinishing, Auto Mechanics, Building Technology/Carpentry, Cosmetology, Diesel Truck Mechanics, Electricity, Heavy Equipment, Masonry, Medical College Prep, Patient Health Care, Sports Medicine & Exercise Science, and Welding. Locally there are about 450 Career Center student members.
Across the country, the organization serves nearly 250,000 high school and college students and professional members who are enrolled in training program in trade, technical, skilled and service occupations.
