The Washington County Career Center honors its October Students of the Month, Katelyn and Benjamin.
Katelyn is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Medical College Prep program, and she is the granddaughter of Daniel and Kathy of Marietta.
At the Career Center, Katelyn is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization and the National Technical Honor Society. As a Student Ambassador, she is responsible for acting as a liaison between the Career Center and Marietta High School. In addition, she is gaining leadership skills by promoting the Career Center during its recruitment process as well as giving tours and guidance at scheduled events and with incoming visitors. Katelyn has received awards for the Principal’s List, Honor Roll, and the Career Center’s W.I.S.H. List in meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. Through her technical program, she has earned certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED). She will sit for the State-Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) industrial credential in December. She has received college credit or is currently taking dual-enrollment classes for: Introduction to Nutrition, Medical Terminology I and Medical Terminology II. Science instructor, Kristin Sigman, nominated Katelyn for this honor and commented on special traits and roles she carries such as polite, hardworking, honest, excellent work ethic, and a positive role model.
Upon graduation, Katelyn plans to attend Washington State Community College to obtain a certification to become a licensed practical nurse. From there, she aspires to obtain a job position at one of the local hospitals and enter their graduate program to become a registered nurse.
Benjamin is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Diesel Truck Mechanics program, and he is the son of James and Amber of Marietta.
Benjamin is a member of the Career Center’s SkillsUSA youth organization and the National Technical Honor Society. He has received awards for Principal’s List and the Career Center’s W.I.S.H. List in meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. At Marietta High School, he is active in their FFA chapter and will be attending the National FFA Convention, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the end of October. Through his technical program, Benjamin is currently working on obtaining the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) industrial credential in which he has passed two out of four student certifications. He is confident to pass the remaining two before graduation next May. Mathematics instructor, Evan Schaad, nominated Benjamin for this honor and commented on special traits and roles he carries such as hardworking, diligent, efficient, and goes the extra mile to succeed.
Ben works in the summers mowing lawns. Following graduation, he plans to either enter directly into the workforce or attend the University of Northern Ohio (UNOH) to obtain a degree in Diesel and Agriculture.
