Career Center Hires Two New Employees

The Washington County Career Center filled two vacated positions this past summer before the start of the new school year.

The Career Center welcomes Maria Huffman, Placement & Student Success Coordinator and Quinton Toncray, Auto Mechanics Instructor.

Maria Huffman graduated from WVU-Parkersburg with a degree in arts elementary education with reading endorsement.  She has held various positions in education with the latest as a Title 1 reading teacher for St. John Central Grade School.  She has certifications in Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Orton-Gillingham, and Intro to Dyslexia K-3.  She is a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and St. John Catholic Women’s Club.

Maria’s duties will be focused on helping the Career Center’s high school students to obtain employment through its early placement and internship programs by working directly with the local businesses and industries.  The goal is to have all seniors upon graduation either entering directly into the workforce, going on for post-secondary education, or entering one of the branches of the U.S. military.  She will be responsible for keeping track of each student’s work-based learning hours and employment grade sheets.  Additionally, she will work closely with the high school assistant director to deal with attendance issues and be in charge of the tobacco & drug cessation program.

Huffman resides in Waterford with her husband, Kirk.  They have five grown children:  Isaac (Mya), Noah (Maddie), Maggie, Jacob, and Sophia.

Quinton Toncray graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics with a degree in specialized technology.  He is a former student of the Career Center’s Auto Mechanics program and has come full circle to now instructing the program after the retirement of Dave Everson this past school year.

He has been employed in the mechanical and manufacturing field both locally and overseas, including as an OCUNUS military contractor for General Atomics (ASI) Aeronautical Systems, Inc. and Battlespace Flight Services.  He holds licenses or certifications for high pressure boiler, EPA 609, automotive service excellence (ASE), and airframe and powerplant.

Toncray resides in Little Hocking with his daughter, Mara Elizabeth.
