Career and Technical Education Month Honoree Announcement

Career and Technical Education is celebrated nationwide during the month of February.   The Washington County Career Center joined in the celebration by hosting an Annual Career Fair for the county’s sophomores.  In addition, the Washington County Career Center Board of Education honored outstanding contributors to career and technical education as part of the celebration.  During its February meeting, the board recognized Paula Brown for her substantial contributions to the technical education programs at the Career Center.

Paula Brown is the Director of Nursing at Waterview Pointe, bringing 21 years of diverse experience from hospitals, clinics, and skilled nursing facilities to her leadership role.  With specialized certifications in oncology, chemotherapy, radiation, central lines, and infection prevention, she provides a wealth of expertise in her position.  Brown has also served as a clinical educator, where she honed her skills in mentoring and developing nursing professionals.

At Waterview Pointe, Brown is known for implementing innovative strategies that enhance patient safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.  She believes that a proactive leadership commitment to continuous professional development empowers multidisciplinary teams to consistently deliver the highest standards of care.  She enjoys coming to work at Waterview Pointe because it is more than just a place to work – it’s a family-like community that truly values patient care, teamwork, and personal growth.  Waterview Pointe fosters a culture where each member plays an important role and is genuinely valued.  This uplifting and motivating environment contributes to the quality of care and a sense of shared purpose for the employees.

The Career Center – High School has three health programs:  Medical College Prep, Patient Health Care, and Pre-Nursing.  Students from all three programs are required to attend clinicals as part of their lab experience at Waterview Pointe.  Pre-Nursing instructor, Amy Jarrell, nominated Brown for this honor and commented, “Paula is essential to our medical program students learning the hands-on skills needed to provide high-quality care to patients.  She and her staff are welcoming to our students and ensure a variety of learning opportunities are available to them.  Waterview Pointe is a top-notch facility enabling our students to learn in an environment where health care done right is displayed.  Paula understands the needs in healthcare and the needs of our career technical training programs, which makes it a pleasure to partner with her and her team.”
