Career Center Names Students of the Month


The Washington County Career Center honors its February Students of the Month, Erin and Timothy.

Erin is a Warren senior enrolled in the Sports Medicine & Exercise Science program, and she is the daughter of Andy of Vincent and Jeri of Powell, Ohio.

At the Career Center, Erin is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization. She is also the President for her technical program. She has received awards for Principal’s List, Merit Roll, and the Career Center’s W.I.S.H. List for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. In her technical program, Erin has earned both high school and college dual credits for Introduction to Nutrition, Manage of Athletic Injuries, Medical Terminology I & II, Personal Fitness, Concepts, and Resistive Training. In academics, she has earned dual credits for Anatomy & Physiology I, English Composition, and Principles of Chemistry I & Lab. She is certified in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED). In March, she will sit for the Physical Therapist Assistant Certification (PTAC) exam. At Warren High School, Erin is active in track. In addition, she has participated in the iBelieve Youth Leadership Summit. Sports Medicine & Exercise Science instructor, Lauren Copen, commented on special traits and roles that Erin carries such as respectful, kind, generous, excellent work ethic, and a great role model.

Erin recently signed on with Youngstown State University to pole vault on their track team. She plans to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Biology Pre-Med and then go on to medical school to either become an orthopedic surgeon or a sports medicine physician.

Timothy is a Frontier senior enrolled in the Patient Health Care program, and he is the grandson of Gerald and Sue of Newport.

At the Career Center, Timothy is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization. He has received awards for Honor Roll and the Career Center’s W.I.S.H. List for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. Through his technical program, he earned industry-recognized credentials in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and will be sitting for the State-Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) exam this month. In addition, he has earned certifications for Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Bloodborne Pathogens, Epinephrine Auto Injector, Oxygen Administration, and Professional Rescuer. He is a member of the Newport Baptist Church. English instructor, Chris Swarr, commented on special traits and roles Timothy carries such as thoughtful, articulate, exceedingly bright, and a voracious reader of fiction.

Upon graduation, Timothy plans to become a correction’s officer and further his career in the law enforcement profession.
