The Washington County Career Center honors its December Students of the Month, Kyra and David.
Kyra is a Warren senior enrolled in the Medical College Prep program. She is the daughter of Don of Marietta and Jenny of Marietta.
At the Career Center, Kyra is a member the SkillsUSA youth organization and Student Council. She has been on the Career Center’s Principal List, Honor Roll, and Merit Roll as well as the W.I.S.H. List in meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. At Warren High School, Kyra played the clarinet in the Warren Marching Band. Through College Credit Plus (CCP), she earned both high school and college credit in College Algebra and English Composition. In addition, she has taken and earned college credit in the following courses: Introduction to Nutrition, Medical Terminology I & II and Pharmacology Math. Through her technical program, she has earned certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Kyra will sit for the State Tested Nursing Assistant exam in either late December or the first part of January 2019. Medical College Prep instructor, Robin Wright, nominated her for this honor and commented on special traits and roles that Kyra carries such as respectful, compassionate, empathetic, and completes work in a timely manner.
Kyra, currently is employed at Hollister in the Grand Central Mall. Upon graduation, she plans to attend either Ohio or Akron University to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition. From there, she plans to further her education to specialize as a Physician’s Assistant.
David is a Warren senior enrolled in the Graphic Design & Video Production program, and he is the son of Dwight and Page of Fleming.
David is a member of the Career Center’s Business Professionals of America youth organization is a Student Ambassador. As a Student Ambassador, he is responsible for acting as a liaison between the Career Center and Warren High School. In addition, he is gaining leadership skills by promoting the Career Center during its recruitment process as well as giving tours and guidance at scheduled events and with incoming visitors. He has been on the Career Center’s Principal List and Honor Roll as well as the W.I.S.H. List in meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. At Warren High School, David played the trumpet in the Warren Marching Band. During his spare time, David has volunteered for BrAva the past seven years. Through his technical program, he has earned ODE industry-recognized credentials and college credit for the software Adobe Certified Associate: Digital Photography, Digital Video Effects, Digital Video Production, Illustrator, and Photoshop. He is currently working on Adobe Certified Associate: InDesign. He has taken or is currently taking dual-enrollment academic courses for both high school and college credit in College Algebra, English Composition, and Statistics. Science instructor, Tamara O’Connor, commented on special traits and roles that David carries such as team player, helpful, kind, smart, funny, and a leader amongst his peers.
After graduating, David plans to attend either Marietta College or WVU-Parkersburg to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or Petroleum Engineering.
