The Washington County Career Center honors its April Students of the Month, Justin Anderson, Megan Kelley, and Carly Strickler.
Justin Anderson is a Fort Frye senior enrolled in the Welding program, and he is the son of Jerry and Christy Anderson of Lower Salem.
At the Career Center, Anderson is a member the SkillsUSA youth organization and is a Student Ambassador. He has received awards for Honor Roll, Merit Roll, and the Career Center’s W.I.S.H. List for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. At Fort Frye High School, Anderson is active in Varsity basketball where he earned the honor of 2nd Team All-Ohio. Additionally, he was active in the FFA. He has taken and earned both high school and college credits for National American Government. Social Studies instructor, Jeff Ritzman, nominated him for this honor and commented on special traits and roles that Anderson carries such as humble, involved, and an exceptional student.
Upon graduation, Anderson applied and has been accepted to attend Marietta College, Muskingum University, Ohio Valley University (OVU), or the University of Rio Grande to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. He is leaning towards OVU where he received a scholarship to play basketball.
Megan Kelley is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Health Information Technology program, and she is the daughter of Mancil and Missy Kelley of Marietta.
At the Career Center, Kelley is a member of the Business Professionals of America (BPA) youth organization, National Technical Honor Society, and she holds the office of Historian in her technical program. Additionally, she is a Student Ambassador. She has earned awards for Principal List, Honor Roll, and the Career Center’s W.I.S.H. List for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. In BPA, Kelley competed and placed at the State competition for Fundamentals of Word Processing during her junior year. This year, she competed at the State level for Database Applications. She has taken and earned both high school and college credits for Advanced Chemistry, American National Government, and Statistics. In her technical program, Kelley has earned industrial credentials thru Microsoft Office Specialist for PowerPoint and Word. At Marietta High School, she was active in Choir. Health Information Technology instructor, Lynette Snyder, nominated her for this honor and commented on special traits and roles that Kelley carries such as pleasant personality, positive attitude, punctual, helpful, cooperative, trustworthy, and respected by her peers.
After graduating, Kelley plans to attend Washington State Community College to obtain an Associate’s Degree to become an X-Ray Technician.
Carly Strickler is a Frontier senior enrolled in the Sports Medicine & Exercise Science program, and she is the daughter of Shawn Strickler of Marietta and Gale and Rachel DePuy of Marietta.
At the Career Center, Strickler is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization, National Technical Honor Society, Interact Club, Student Council, and she holds the office of Treasurer in her technical program. Additionally, she is a Student Ambassador and will represent the Career Center at Rotary. She has earned awards for Principal List, Honor Roll, Merit Roll, and the Career Center’s W.I.S.H. List for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. At Frontier High School, she is a member of the FFA, National Honor Society, and is active in basketball, softball, and volleyball. She has taken and earned both high school and college credits for Advanced Chemistry, College Algebra, English Composition, and National American Government. In her technical program, Strickler earned certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Certified Fitness Trainer (CFT) during her junior year. In her technical program, she has earned college credit for Introduction to Nutrition, Manage of Athletic Injuries, Personal Fitness Concepts, and Resistive Training. English instructor, Sherm Koons, nominated her for this honor and commented on special traits and roles that Strickler carries such as diligent, hardworking, active, and an excellent student and athlete.
Upon graduation, Strickler plans to attend Muskingum University to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Athletic Training with a minor in Special Education. This summer, she is working as a paid intern for the ParMar offices in Marietta.
