The Washington County Career Center honors its February Students of the Month, Ciara Sims and Evan Scott.
Ciara Sims is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Graphic Design & Video Production program, and she is the daughter of Chris and Cindi Sims of Marietta.
At the Career Center, Sims is a member of the Business Professionals of America (BPA) youth organization and National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). Through BPA, she competed and placed third in Interview Skills (junior year) and third in Digital Publishing (senior year). She has been on the Principal List all last year and to-date this school year as well as the Career Center’s W.I.S.H. List for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. Through her technical program, Sims has earned industrial credentials and/or college credits for the Adobe Certified Associate software including: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Digital Photography, Digital Video Effects, and Digital Video Production. She is currently working on the industrial credential and college credit for Adobe InDesign. She has taken dual credit academic classes for American National Government, College Algebra, and English Composition; all of which will give her both college and high school credit. At Marietta High School, Sims was active in both the concert and marching band where she played both the French horn and the mellophone. English instructor, Chris Swarr, nominated her for this honor and commented on special traits and roles that Sims carries such as extremely bright, talented, motivated, mature, well-spoken, a strong intellect, and superior quality of work.
Sims commissions her artistic drawing talents online through a private Twitter account. She specializes in animation drawings and is branching out into realism. Additionally, she is currently working on beginning an online store of merchandise for items such as key chains, charms, stickers, etc. Sims is currently waiting on an acceptance letter from The Ohio State University where she plans to obtain a double major in Korean and Film & Business. Her second choice of colleges to attend is Ohio University to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Arts and Studies.
Evan Scott is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Sports Medicine & Exercise Science program, and he is the son of Rodney and Angie Scott of Marietta.
At the Career Center, Scott has earned awards for the Principal List and Honor Roll. He is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization, Student Council, National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), and he holds the office of President for the Interact Club. He has been on the Career Center’s W.I.S.H. List for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. Through his technical program, Scott has earned industrial credentials for Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and First Aid as well as earning the Certified Fitness Trainer (CFT) certification. At Marietta High School, he has been active on the Varsity golf team. Sports Medicine & Exercise Science instructor, Lauren Copen, nominated him for this honor and commented on special traits and roles that Scott carries such as responsible, respectful, intelligent, and an outstanding role model.
Scott is currently employed at the Marietta location of Walgreen’s. He has been accepted to attend Ohio University this fall to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in the Athletic Training program.
