The Washington County Career Center honors its April students of the month, BayLee and Zachary.
BayLee is a Waterford senior enrolled in the landscape construction & turf management program. She is the daughter of Shawna of Waterford.
At the Career Center, BayLee is a member the FFA youth organization and holds the office of chapter president. In her technical program, she holds the office of class treasurer. She has been on both the Career Center’s principal’s list and honor roll. At Waterford High School, she is also an active member of FFA, holding the office of president her freshman year as well as receiving the Star Greenhand award.
She serves as captain of the varsity cheerleading squad and played volleyball her freshman and sophomore years.
BayLee has earned industry-recognized credentials for Ohio certified nursery technician as well as occupational safety and health administration – 10-Hour Training. In addition, she’s earned college and high school credit for academics in American national government, college algebra, and English composition I & II. She is taking course offerings and learning skills for landscape design, landscape hardscapes, landscape systems management, plant & horticultural science, and turf science & management.
Guidance counselor, Cynthia Schwendeman, commented, “BayLee is a hard worker as exhibited by her great job working for the Career Center this past summer. She always has a smile and is eager to help. She is motivated to be the best student and has established goals and a bucket list.”
BayLee is currently employed with Amy’s Flower Shoppe, in Beverly, through the Career Center’s early placement program. This fall, she will be attending Ohio University to obtain a bachelor’s degree in pre-elementary education.
Zachary is a Belpre senior enrolled in the graphic design & video production program, and he is the son of John and Tara of Marietta.
Zach is a member of the Career Center’s Business Professionals of America youth organization and held the office of class parliamentarian his junior year. He has received awards for both the Career Center honor roll and merit roll. At Belpre High School, he was a member of the gaming club and student council. Through MOV2GO, he filmed high school football games last season and is currently the talent or speaker for flag football.
In his technical program, Zach has earned or may earn industry-recognized credentials and college credit for adobe creative cloud: digital photography, digital storytelling, digital video effects, graphic design, illustrator, indesign, live streaming & production, photoshop, premier pro, and video production.
Zach is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for creating & editing digital graphics, design techniques, information technology, multimedia & image management techniques, and video & sound. Graphic Design & Video Production instructor, Chris Palmer, commented, “Zach is a high energy student with a contagiously positive attitude.”
Zach currently works for Taco Bell, in Belpre, as a crew member. Upon graduation, he plans to continue working in the workforce and enroll in evening classes to further pursue the graphic design field.
